The ASCA or Administrative Simplification Compliancy Act indicates that
there are the following number of "Covered Entities" that need to respond to
the CMS - Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (Formerly HCFA) by
Mid-Night October 15, 2002 with their HIPAA Compliancy Plan or request for
an extension:
- Providers 222,150
- Health Plans 11,614
- Claims Clearing houses 3,370
- Total: 237,134
So where are you in the process? Do not wait until October 15, 2002 to
submit your Compliancy Plan or request for an extension. Back up and review
our HIPAA letters and iBHEALTH booklet and complete the CMS form. It will
take approximately 20 minutes and time well spent.
You do not have a choice if you are a "covered entity" and treat Medicare
patients and/or do any electronic transmissions.
