2003 conference held in San Diego was one for the record books!
According to KLandcaster "the results are in, and the 2003
annual conference and exhibition in San Diego will go down in the
records as one of the largest and most successful held by HIMSS. In
all, the conference drew about 19,400 attendees, nearly equaling the
top attendance figure achieved in 2001. Those attending included about
7,700 non-exhibiting attendees, and 1,300 of those said they were CIOs
or some other senior executive title.
On the floor of the show, 686 exhibiting companies were
represented at the conference, up 13.5 percent from last year.
Exhibitors occupied 236,000 square feet of floor space, up 14.5
percent from last year. The 2003 edition of the conference also
hosted a number of firsts including the first physician symposium,
international symposium, student symposium and
fact-finding hearing, which elicited testimony on whether the federal government should mandate an electronic health record".
